SC Lowcountry…Naturally Amazing
What defines a place? Is it the history etched on monuments or the unique dishes created by its passionate cooks? Maybe it is the way the forces of nature carve out rivers and shift the sands. We believe it is all of these things and countless more, all embodied in the welcoming smiles and heartfelt stories of the people who live here. We are happy to welcome you to our home and hope it becomes one of your treasured places.
The Lowcountry covers four counties: Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton and Colleton. From our inland treasures to the coastal beaches, the area offers an abundance of things to see and do. We provide plenty of places to wet a hook, paddle a kayak or make a splash. Hunters, bird-watchers, antiques seekers, golf enthusiasts, beach bums, foodies, history buffs and art lovers all find a reason to spend time with us.
Come join us for festivals to celebrate proud culture, music, soft-shell crabs, shrimp, oysters, watermelons, boiled peanuts and more. Stay a while and enjoy lodging options from resorts and beach-front cottages to hotels and campgrounds.
Church ruins covered in Spanish moss. State-of-the-art museums honoring the area’s heritage. Art districts showcasing the talents of the community. These are just some of the spectacular sights you will enjoy while exploring the Lowcountry.
You can’t travel far without encountering a wildlife sanctuary or refuge. The various nature trails are abundant with the beauty of native flora and fauna. Historic homes and plantations have been carefully preserved, serving as windows to the past. Charming historic districts beaming with life warmly welcome you like you’ve lived here your whole life.
From beaches covered in shells to boardwalks covered in a canopy of live oak branches, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this destination like none you’ve ever experienced before.
Look around and you’ll discover why the Lowcountry is known for its natural beauty. As you travel down the back roads, notice the canopy of live oaks sheltering the route. Paddle down the Combahee River and keep your eyes peeled for flowering plants along the banks. Native bald eagles soar above your head as you hike one of the many nature trails. Cast a line at Hunting Island or Edisto Beach State Parks after a stroll on the beach in search of shells.
Wildlife centers and museums are located throughout our communities, aiming to educate visitors on everything that makes this area special. We welcome you with a smile, encouraging you to unplug and reconnect with nature. Kids and kids at heart enjoy a day at the beach, collecting seashells, playing in the waves and soaking up the sun.
During your visit, be sure to stop by our welcome center at Frampton House, off I-95 in Yemassee. We have helpful brochures and a gift shop with local books, art and more. Our staff will help you make the most of your time in the Lowcountry.
