This was our second time renting from Joe Lamb, (we stayed at Castle Dune #687 in Nags Head) and we won't be renting again after 2025. We arrived at the house and immediatly had issues. The previous renters had left trash in the bins so they were full of trash and maggots. We were told this wasn't their problem, it was the trash company's fault, instead of taking responsibility for it. They should have taken care of it. The carpets in the rooms were gross. One of the kids room's carpet was full of burs which cut my daughter's foot. One room's carpet had what looked like fece's stains. My parent's bedding had small blood stains on it (which had been washed but obviously those sheets should've been trashed). Two bedrooms that shared a bathroom on the middle floor had a terrible smell, we aren't even sure what that was. There were several other things that I won't bother listing. We had a few maintenance issues (broken shower door/railing) that they did come fix, which we appreciated. But that is where any resemblance of good customer service ended. I filled out a housekeeping survey during our stay but declined them coming to haul out all of the carpets and bedding as we were on vacation and did not want a bunch of people in the home. This is something we should not have had to deal with in the first place. When I tried to contact their customer service it took WEEKS. I was told that they would reach out soon, but they never did. I called and emailed a dozen times at least. A month after our vacation ended they finally responded to my emails. They offered a $210 admin fee refund which I told them was unacceptable and I was then told it was the best they could do and haven't heard a word since or seen a dime.
We recently stayed at Just to Sea You in Kitty Hawk. The place does not disappoint, exactly as you see in the pictures!! The view to the beach is spectacular, the location is close to everything you need, restaurants, grocery store, etc. The house is so bright and beautiful!! We will definitely be back!!
Great variety of vacation homes, helpful agents that helped us find a house available the week we wanted with our main goal of a heated pool, and very responsive when we ran into a minor issue (locked laundry room door). They sent someone out same day to solve the problem. We had a fabulous week-long OBX vacation.
Rented a house for a week through Joe Lamb and the place was completely unacceptable. There was a black substance on the ceiling of 4 different rooms. We immediately called to see what could be done and were told to wait for a 'mold remediation' company to come out. They told a family of 8 people, including a 7 month infant to "just wait outside" for up to an hour before some company would come out and inspect the property. In the mean time the office closed and were willing to leave us stranded. The "manager", Jeffrey, did not care one bit that we were now stuck in this situation, with the possibility of mold, and in the middle of a COVID epidemic. The after hours number was a joke and is just an answering service used as a middle man to connect you to a human whenever they feel like returning your call. Someone, other the Jeffrey, did call us back 48 hours after we told them we were going to be stranded with children. Now we have to sue the owner to get our money back but found a much nicer company to deal with and found a house to rent at the last minute. I'll be sure to let everyone know how the offices of Joe Lamb handled the situation. Bottom line, the company doesnt stand behind the properties and quickly tried to distance themselves by making it our problem. Save your money and rent from someone else. Dump rented: "Six" - 2431 S. 740 on the bay could be an extremely beautiful property if the exterior was maintained better. The entire outside of the property is infested with spiders. I do not say that lightly! The outside of the home was covered in them so much so that many found their way inside as well. Despite some spiders, the inside of the home is maintained very well. It’s a large property that fit our family of 7 very easily. The pool and view are unforgettable. If the exterior of the property was better taken care of it would be a breathtaking home. There is new construction happening next door. On Monday and Tuesday of our week stay, construction started promptly at 6:30 am and did not end until around 4:30 pm. Lots of hammering and beeping from construction vehicles. Definitely not a huge deal, but important to know before you stay at the property.
My family stayed at Turquoise Turtle (10003 Old Oregon Inlet Rd.) this year. It was over $10,000 for a week. The property had lots of issues that posed danger to my small nieces and nephews, and simple inconveniences to the rest of us. 1. Nail pops coming out 1/4" all throughout the deck. DANGEROUS. 2. Their can openers were all rusted and did not work. We had to use knives to open our canned food to cook. 3. Front door lock is completely rusted out and has to be finessed to lock it. 4. Some vanity drawers can't fully open because they run into window trim when opened 2". 5. There are no extra towels anywhere on the property. 6. Trashcan is so small in the kitchen we had to take it out every single day if not twice a day. 7. Their sliding glass doors required 40+ lb force to close. Kids couldn't even close the one on the first floor and it was a struggle to close the one upstairs. 8. Kitchen sink did not have a garbage disposal. 9. Extra blankets in closet are rough and old. 10. Uneven concrete around the pool creates lips that are easy to stub your toe or trip and fall. The price didn't feel justifiable for the condition of the home.
We stayed last week at 4313 Lindbergh Av, Kitty Hawk and wow, Very disappointed. Keep in mind, this was probably the 9th or 10th time I’ve rented from Joe Lamb and luckily never had an issue with quality or maintenance in the past. Upon walking in we took pics of a broken Adirondack chair on the second floor deck and a broken lounge chair by the pool. Very low quality, Dollar Store lawn furniture. The two grills were both rusty, filthy and one was full of cigarette butts. Looked forward to playing pool. The cloth top had several holes and was worn. Three cue sticks, two had smashed tips so we shared the one decent stick. The living room furniture was worn and should probably have been replaced 10 years ago One bathroom had a toilet brush wrapped in a clear trash bag leaning in the corner. The blankets were worn, thin and cheap. One blanket pulled out of the closet had a large hole in the center. Finally…the washing machine was broken. I first reported this Monday morning. They responded right away “thank you, we’ll forward to maintenance”. Never heard from them. Wednesday morning, I reported again. Again, got the same reply. No maintenance Thursday morning, once again. Same reply. No maintenance. Finally, Fridays email they did not even bother to respond to. So we hauled our dirty towels and clothes back home. Luckily, we both over packed. One of the big reasons we rent a house over a hotel room is for simple home conveniences such as a working washing machine and dryer. Clearly this house is owned by someone who is very cheap and takes zero pride in the comfort of your stay. I guess JoeLambJr figures, you’ll be gone in a week and it’ll be in with the new customer. Obviously they dont care about return business as I will never use them again. Especially after reading similar reviews of no response on maintenance issues. I entered a similar review with JoeLamb in response to a survey they emailed 5 days ago. Zero response. No shock, terrible service.
Perfect home for any size group or family! There's plenty of open space indoors and out. The home has an ample supply of kitchen equipment, games, books, videos. Kids will love the bunk bed room! Close to restaurants, shopping and activities. We will stay here again!
